Opening Dates by Course — 2026 Season

Dates are approximate — actual opening depends on snowpack and conditions each year. Graeagle Meadows consistently opens earliest; Grizzly Ranch and Nakoma open latest due to higher elevation.

Course Typical Opening Elevation Closes Phone
Graeagle Meadows Mid-April ~3,500 ft November (530) 836-2323
Plumas Pines Early May ~4,000 ft October (530) 836-1420
Whitehawk Ranch Early May ~4,400 ft October (530) 836-0394
Nakoma (The Dragon) Mid-May ~4,500 ft October (530) 993-4197
Grizzly Ranch ★ Top 100 Mid-May 4,800–5,400 ft Mid-October (530) 832-4200

Cart Rules — Walking vs. Riding by Course

Cart policies matter when planning a multi-course trip — especially for groups with mixed preferences. Here's what to expect at each course.

Graeagle Meadows ✓ Walking OK

Carts available but not required. Flattest course in the valley — the best option for groups who want to walk.

Plumas Pines ✓ Walking Permitted

Walking is permitted but the tight pine layout and some elevation changes make carts preferred for most groups.

Whitehawk Ranch ~ Contact Course

Mix of meadow and forested hillside holes. Some distance between holes. Carts are the standard. Contact course for current walking policy.

Nakoma (The Dragon) ✗ Cart Required

Mountain terrain with significant elevation changes between holes. Carts are standard. Canyon-to-ridge routing makes walking impractical.

Grizzly Ranch ✗ Cart Required

Cart required — all golfers must sign for a cart in the cart barn before play. Distance between greens and tees makes walking impractical. Cart included in green fee.

Elevation & Ball Distance — What to Expect

At 4,000–5,400 feet, the golf ball carries 6–8% farther than at sea level. On a 150-yard approach at sea level, plan to hit 158–162 yards in Graeagle. Most groups club down by one full club on approach shots once they notice the carry. On a course like Grizzly Ranch at 5,200 feet, this effect is most pronounced.

Course Elevation Distance Bonus (est.) Practical Impact
Graeagle Meadows ~3,500 ft +4–5% Minimal — one club difference on long irons only
Plumas Pines ~4,000 ft +5–6% Noticeable on 150+ yard shots — club down one
Whitehawk Ranch ~4,400 ft +6% Club down one across the bag for approaches
Nakoma (The Dragon) ~4,500 ft +6–7% Club down one — canyon wind can negate the bonus
Grizzly Ranch 4,800–5,400 ft +7–8% Most significant — club down one to two on approaches
